Overview

Everest Base Camp  Hike (EBC Hike ) is one of the most remarkable and classical trekking experiences in the Himalayas. This exhilarating Himalayan excursion provides you the opportunity to explore the Mount Everest Base Camp (5,364 meters), the foot base of the world’s tallest peak, Mt. Everest (8,848 meters).

This incredible  Everest base camp tour  takes you across colorful Sherpa villages where you can experience their authentic culture, traditions, and lifestyle. Similarly, you will also get the opportunity to relish the spiritual ambiance of the ancient monastery, Tengboche Monastery, which is home to 35 monks.

Your exciting 13 Days EBC  Hike starts after a thrilling flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, which passes through the corners of several mountain hills and offers majestic aerial views of the pristine sparkling peaks in the Himalayas. Trekking through the popular highlights of the region, like Namche, Dingboche, Lobuche, etc, you will push for the Everest Base Camp.

However, your adventure will only be complete after an exciting hike to Kalapatthar for astonishing sunrise views and, of course, the 360° panoramic views of the Himalayan gems like Everest (you can view Everest from top to bottom from Kalapatthar), Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori, and other surrounding peaks.

If you want to explore the most iconic trekking trails, Himalayas Adventure Great Himalaya, with over a decade of experience, will ensure a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable experience. Routes

Our EBC Trek route is slightly different from the packages of other trekking agencies in the market. Generally, most of the 12 days itinerary packages start from Lukla, and after reaching the base camp trekkers retrace their steps on the same route to Lukla from EBC for the flight back to Kathmandu.

However, in Adventure Great Himalaya’s EBC Trek itinerary plan, you will start your trek after 45 minutes flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. Then, you will trek along the gradually inclining route trekking through Phakding (2,640 meters), Namche Bazaar (3,440 meters), Dingboche (4,410 meters), Lobuche (4,920 meters) and Gorakshep (5,001 meters) to finally reach Everest Base Camp (5,364 meters).

After exploring the base camp, the next morning, you will hike to Kalapatthar to enjoy the incredible sunrise and the panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. Then, instead of following the same trekking route for the descent, you will trek down to Pangboche (3,985 meters) and Phortse Village (3,840 meters).

You will explore these charming high-altitude settlements in our EBC Trek itinerary plan before rejoining the mainstream EBC route at Namche Bazaar. Continuing with your descending journey, you will then trek down to Lukla for the flight back to Kathmandu. Our exciting itinerary plan includes the exploration of two more hidden gems of the Khumbu Valley that are often ignored by the regular trekking packages.

Acclimatization Days and Side Trips

In Adventure Great Himalaya’s 13 day itinerary plan, you will get two acclimatization days. We have designed the itinerary package with rest days at strategic locations so your high-altitude journey is seamless and safer. Having enough acclimatization days also increases the success rate of your Himalayan excursion.

During your first acclimatization day at Namche Bazaar, you will do some short hikes to Sagarmatha National Park and the highest-altitude hotel in the world, Everest View Hotel (3,962 meters/ 13,000 feet). Both of these hiking destinations will reward you with breathtaking views of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and other adjacent peaks.

In your EBC Trek, you will get another acclimatization day at Dingboche. In this strategic acclimatization destination, you have the hiking option to Nangkartshang Peak (5,083 meters), which offers panoramic views of Makalu, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and other surrounding peaks.

Or, you can hike to the Chukung Ri (5,546 meters) in the Chukung Valley. Although the hike to Chukung Ri is long and takes you to high-elevation points in the region, the rewarding views of Lhotse, Nuptse, Imja Tse, Ama Dablam, Baruntse and other adjacent peaks will make the trip certainly worth it. To decide on your hiking destination on this second acclimatization day of your trek, you can consult your guide. Your guide will   do a proper physical assessment and decide the appropriate hiking destination on this day.

Hike Difficulty

Everest Base Camp Hiking is a high-altitude trekking adventure in the Himalayas. Although this is one of the most remarkable and iconic trekking destinations in Nepal, there are some difficulty factors that you have to overcome during your excursion.

Altitude

Your EBC  Tour starts from Kathmandu (1,380 meters) and takes you to the highest altitude jump point, Kalapatthar (5,545 meters). So, as the altitude gain is significant, if you don’t acclimatize properly, there is a risk of altitude sickness.

You will also need to trek about 6 to 7 hours on the ascending route, which is certainly physically demanding. During your trek, as you reach the alpine altitude at Gorakshep (5,001 meters), sleeping and breathing can be difficult. So, you need to acclimatize as much as possible, drink enough water (3-4 liters), eat a balanced diet, walk slowly, and keep your body warm to avoid altitude sickness.

Weather and Snow Fall

The weather conditions at the high altitudes can be unpredictable at times. The EBC Trek also faces a similar kind of challenge; the weather conditions in this high-altitude journey change frequently. Sudden snowfall or rain can create obstructions in the trekking route.

So, hiring the services of a trekking agency will be the most effective way to overcome the weather challenges. Professional trekking guides undergo such imminent weather challenges quite often and know how to handle such situations safely and efficiently.

Accommodation Difficulties

The months of peak seasons like October, November, March, and April are the busiest trekking period in the Himalayas. As trekkers from all over the world pour in to explore the majestic Himalayas, booking accommodation can be challenging on your own.

However, if you book the trek with an agency, they will book the accommodation for your trip in advance. The agencies also have better connections with the teahouses along the route, and you may even get extra amenities if you trek with them.

Narrow Trail

The trekking trails in the EBC Trek are not wide like motor roads. For the majority of the part, you will have to trek on narrow trails, overcoming the steep sections. You have to be careful while trekking on these narrow trails, be careful especially when letting the yaks pass by.

Don’t stand on the edge while letting the yak pass, as sometimes yak can push you while moving, and if you are not careful, it can even cause major accidents. So, the safest way to trek if you encounter a herd of yaks is to look for a wide place to stand and let them pass.
