Overview

Helambu Trek is great short and easy treks near from Kathmandu   and an extensive trail network enables you to tailor a circuit to your schedule. The area spans a wide elevation range – there’s a lot of up-and-down – but the highest point reached is only 2700–3600m .Winter treks are particularly feasible. The peaks of Langtang Himal are often visible, but the views aren’t as close-up as in other areas.

The Helambu Trekking  route start  from Sundarijal, drive an hour from Kathmandu. Then  enter Shivapuri National Park. Continuing  trek the Chisopani, Kutumsang, Thadepati and Sermathang, the trek ends at the Melamchi Pul Bazar in the Helambu region. The trek passes through thick mountain forests with great Himalayan views and toward the end of the trip, you will also trek through some beautiful rice terraces and a number of splendid Buddhist monasteries.

The  Helambu trek provides the spectacular views of the Langtang (7245m), Ganesh Himal (7405m), Dorje Lhakpa (6990m) and other small mountains of Langtang Himalayan range. The warm and friendly people of helambu are mostly Buddhists. It is an ideal trip for those who have a short time and like to combine both cultural scene. You will enjoy visiting the culturally rich Tamang villages, Buddhist Gompas and the fantastic landscape with rice fields,

Helambu Trek Itienrary

Day 1

Arrive in Kathmandu.

We will meet you at the the airport and transfer to hotel. Free and easy time.
Evening provide dinner at Nepalese kitchen. We will introduce you your trekking guide. Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu

Day 2

Drive to Sundarijal , Lunch in Mulkharka and trek for 5-6 hours to Chisapani (2100m.)

Today, we have breakfast at hotel and drive to Sundarijal (1350m) which is starting point for trekking. The trail enters into the Shivapuri National Park. We will climb up through the mixed of forest and Mulkharka village.
We will stop for lunch at this village. The first settlement, we come across is Mulkharka mostly inhabited by the Tamang people. Then we walk along the ridge through a forest of oaks and rhododendron to Chisopani.

Day 3

Chisapani to Kutumsang . (7 hours trek: 2500m.)

The trail heads to Pati Bhanjyan at 1770m. which has a police check post. The trail rises and falls throung Chipling at 2170m. From here the trail climbs again at 2470m pass before descending a forest ridge to Thodang. Continues along the forest ridge.
The trail continuously descends to a large chorten overlooking the Tamang village of Gul Bhyanjyang at 2140m. This is the classic hill village with a pleasant main street.
Then, we will walk downhill to Kutumsang. There is Langtang National Park office. You have to show your park permit which costs Rs.300.

Day 5

Trek to Tharepati. (3600m., view point)

After breakfast, we  Trek to Tharepati via Magen Goth, which lies next to a meadow and provides fabulous mountain views. Hiking further,  We climb above on a steep trail through fir and rhododendron forests

Day 6

Melamche Gaon. ( 4 hours, 2530m)

After Breakfast, we will follow the descending way toward Melamchi Gaon (7900ft), passing through the jungle area as well as Melamchi stream for 3 hours.
Then after we will reach a big village near to the jungle and also a monastery, at Melamche Gaon where we will set the camp for overnight stay.

Day 7

Melamche to Tarke Ghyang – Sermathang. (6- 7 hour, 2590m.)

After breakfast, we will follow descend walk about 2 hours. Today, the trail leads us towards Tarkeghyang village (2,600m), known as the largest Sherpa settlement in Helambu, passing through the jungle, village and cross the bridge.
After crossing bridge continue ascending walk for Tarkeghyang which takes normally 3 hours, on the way there are two monasteries and some villages where you will have the opportunity to explore and observe the Sherpa culture and tradition as well as the visit of the oldest Buddhist monastery add the beauty on our trek.
We will stop lunch break in Tarkey ghyang .After lunch we will trek toward Sermathang which is comparatively easier through flat land with small beautiful forests and then the view of beautiful village of Helambu region. On the way, we can see local farmers working in the fertile land.
The trail makes a sweep around the wide valley end between Parachin and the pretty Sherpa village of Gangyul. The people of this village practice Drukpa Kagyu Buddhism, the same as the national religion of Bhutan. After passing a couple of streams and waterfalls, you’ll end up in the village of Sermathang (2,610m). It takes about 4 hours walk. Overnight in Sermathang.

Day 8

Sermathang to Melamche Bazzar. (4- 5 hour, 870m.)

We will gradually descend down all the way to Melamchi Pul Bazaar (880m) through meadows and cultivated fields; in the distance you’ll see the majestic views of rivers as well as Himalayans. Along the short way, we come across several old villages with their own particular traditions.
After lunch we will catch a vehicle to Kathmandu, about 2-3 hours drive. Stay overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 9

Kathmandu by Bus. 4 hour

Breakfast at hotel and catch bus to Kathmandu. We will arrive about 1pm.

Day 10

Departure from Nepal.

We will drop you at the airport and good bye from Nepal.
