10 Days Everest Base Camp Trek Difficulties
The 10-day EBC trek can be considered a moderately hard trek. Though there are no technical challenges on the trial, some factors tend to increase the difficulty level of the trek.
Limited Availability of Flight
All of the aircraft on the Kathmandu Lukla route are usually reserved at the busiest times of the year, which means that in order to begin the trip, you will need to drive from Kathmandu to Manthali in the wee hours of the morning. After arriving in Manthali, you will eventually be able to travel to Lukla on a thrilling 20-minute flight. However, these circumstances won’t occur if you book the flights early.
No Additional Acclimatization Day
Additionally, the trek is initially a time-constrained trek with no separate acclimatization day. So, you won’t have enough time to adapt your body to increasing altitude, and you can easily suffer from symptoms of altitude sickness.
Long Hours Hiking
In these 10 days, you are required to hike for about 7 to 8 hours daily. Moreover, the rugged and steep terrain requires a good level of physical fitness, endurance, and mental determination, which can be somewhat tiresome.
Best time to 10 days EBC trek
You may notice that even though trekking is open all year round, the trekkers prefer to go trekking only in peak seasons. Likewise, trekking to the Everest base camp is no exception. The best time to get a face-to-face introduction to Mt. Everest is March to May and September to December. You might be wondering why, and the answer is that these seasons don’t have the summer’s monsoonal rains or the winter’s enormous snow dumps.
The period from March to May has an above-average number of sunny days that will offer you the best visibility of the mountains. Moreover, you will be able to witness the livelier form of mountains as red Rhododendrons spread their color to the landscapes, making them smile brightly.
Likewise, the period of September to December has its own perks. The daytime temperature is pleasant, and the nighttime temperature is neither too cold nor too hot. Among these months, particularly from the end of October to the end of November, trekkers prefer to unite with the atmosphere of the Everest region. After the monsoon rain is subsidized, the skies clear in the fall seasons, allowing you to enjoy the breathtaking views of panoramic Himalayan peaks. Additionally, the trails are dry and stable making the trekkers comfortable to trek.
Is This Trip Suitable for Me?
Certain factors like physical fitness, trekking experience, personal preference, adaptability, and endurance play a vital role in determining the suitability of a trek for any individual. As the trail of the trek is composed of rocky terrains and steep ascents and descents, adequate physical fitness is required to do this trek. Moreover, you can increase your stamina and endurance before the trek by performing cardio exercises and strength-related training.
On top of that, this 10-day EBC trek is a time-constraint trek as there is no additional acclimatization day. So, trekkers can easily fall prey to altitude sickness. Trekking experience to this trek is not mandatory, but it can be advantageous as it requires you to hike for a maximum of 6 to 8 hours, which can physically and mentally exert the trekkers.
So, if you feel you can endure all the trekking exertion and have adequate physical fitness to complete the trek, then you are good to go. Additionally, if you have any experience with high-altitude hiking, this trek is recommended to you.
